The members of the firm have extensive experience handling mass-tort, class action and large financial cases as well as a wide variety of other complex litigation matters. Its mass-tort practice stems initially from the experience of four of its members over more than two decades as national trial and coordinating defense counsel, handling hundreds of thousands of asbestos personal injury and property damage cases pending in all 50 states. That practice has moved in recent years to a variety of quite distinct mass-tort cases as well as a large number of class action and other multi-party complex commercial litigations throughout the United States, virtually all on behalf of plaintiffs.
The firm's considerable experience in the litigation and trial of complex, multi-jurisdictional matters has led it into the following areas, in which it is or was until recently actively engaged: federal litigation on behalf of September 11, 2001 victims against airlines and airport security companies and, in a separate case, financial sponsors of terrorism; vaccine and environmental litigation on behalf of persons injured by thimerosal and other dangerous substances; pharmaceutical litigation, including litigation on behalf of persons addicted to the dangerous opioid analgesic OxyContin, as well as actions involving the harmful effects of Vioxx, Zelnorm, Zyprexa, Bextra, Celebrex, ephedra and gadolinium contrast agents; securities fraud litigation on behalf of victims of "death spiral" financing schemes; commercial fraud, breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty litigation on behalf of individuals and corporations; medical malpractice on behalf of injured patients; class action litigations on behalf of participants in employee retirement plans, of franchisees of a national income tax preparation firm and of mutual fund investors; and intellectual property and anti-trust litigation. The firm has assumed a leadership role in many multi-jurisdictional litigations, and its members sit on the Plaintiffs' Executive Committees in the two consolidated federal 9/11 cases, in the
